Trial Class for Children Ages 4 to 10

At Steglitzer TK, children as young as 4 start with plenty of physical activity, fun, and age-appropriate training. Our Mini-Minis and Minis are introduced to hockey in a playful way—no prior experience required—and with plenty of patience from our coaching staff.

Our children’s program is designed for girls and boys who enjoy being active, experiencing team spirit, and trying out a new sport. Hockey is particularly well-suited for children who enjoy running games, coordination, and playing together. Height, prior experience, or athletic “perfection” don’t matter at all.

Here's how children get started with us

To help parents quickly identify where their child can start, we organize our programs into simple age and developmental levels. This way, you can immediately see which group is a good fit and what the path to the next age group looks like.

Group Age / Year of Birth What's going on there?
Mini-Minis ages 4 and up A playful introduction, first strokes with a racket, simple games, and having fun as a group.
Minis ages 5–6 and up First coordinated hockey movements, basic skills through play, team games.
U8 ages 7 and up Children learn to play in a more structured way, pick up their first simple hockey rules, and develop better ball control and spatial awareness.
U10 ages 9 and up Progressive training sessions focusing on technique, game understanding, and team spirit.

What do children learn during practice?

Children's hockey training isn't just about hockey skills; it also focuses on important social and motor skills. Hockey promotes speed, coordination, endurance, and fair play, while at the same time teaching children responsibility and consideration for others as part of a team.

  • Run safely, stop, and dribble the ball.

  • Hold the racket correctly and use it in a controlled manner.

  • Understand the simple rules of the game.

  • Playing together as a team.

  • Develop courage, focus, and self-confidence.

Try it first, then decide

Before signing up, children can try out a practice session with no obligation. This helps parents and children see if hockey is fun and if the group is a good fit. Feel free to sign up for a trial session. Our team will let you know which group is right for you and what you should bring to your first session.

Comfortable athletic clothing is usually sufficient for the first trial practice. The club welcomes beginners and is happy to accept new children even during the current season. If you need more information, click here for additional information for parents:
